Trading cards: New Weet-bix collector cards bring All Blacks to life

Weet-Bix has launched a range of high-tech collector cards which give All Blacks fans the opportunity to see their favourite players come to life before their eyes.

The new Weet-Bix All Black Power Plays collector cards utilise an innovative 3D technology developed by Total Immersion in France and the USA and Dreamscape in Australia. The collector cards are the first to use the technology in New Zealand, and only the second in the world. The series features 53 collector cards, with 10 special cards showcasing the revolutionary 3D animation technology, in an example of ‘augmented reality’.

The technology combines a real image with a virtual one. Rotate the card, and the figure rotates in full perspective, allowing fans to check out their favourite players from all angles. Fans who hold one of these special Weet-Bix All Blacks trading cards in front of a webcam will be able to witness a three-dimensional avatar of an All Blacks player, complete with a unique power play move.  All Black players featured on these 3D cards are: Dan Carter, Richie McCaw, Joe Rokocoko, Tony Woodcock, Conrad Smith, Jimmy Cowan, Ali Williams, Rodney So’oialo, Kevin Mealamu and Mils Muliaina.  The remaining 43 collector cards are also interactive and will each show an entertaining clip of All Blacks game highlights.

Weet-Bix Senior Brand Manager, Tanne Andrews says the Weet-Bix All Blacks Power Plays collector cards promise to be more popular than ever before. “Collecting Weet-Bix cards has a long history as a very popular pastime for Kiwi kids. Over the past few years we’ve seen kids go crazy over our Stat-Attack series, which sparked a spate of trading across the country. We believe the Power Plays cards will be even bigger and become one of the hottest All Black collector’s items ever.
